Our monthly meetings feature informative and entertaining speakers. Along with monthly social events and 23 activity groups who meet regularly, its a great way to meet new people, make new friends and discover new interests. VANDERMEER NURSERY PRODUCTION TOUR Registration is now closed (Event at Capacity) Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour through the growing side of Vandermeer Nursery, as we walk through the retail store and four different production greenhouses, spanning over 20 of their 36 acres. |

NewsSharing Our Recipes Courtesy of Patricia Bolger Mulligatawny Soup Many years ago, when we had huge crowds at the house for Christmas Eve, “The Big Guy” and I would make soup, put out cold cuts and appetizers then we would all play party games. |

Mulligatawny Soup was one of the crowd favourites. The tag line on this recipe in my Grand Slam – More Recipes from the Best of Bridge, Centrax Books,1988, describes Mulligatawny Soup as “a British-Indian soup -- popular with the Ranks -- Gunga Din loved it!” Well, that was just enough to set off “The Big Guy”. He is searching for his desert tan military uniform, marching through the house, searching for the movie on all the streaming channels, slicking his hair to mimic Carey Grant and, in his best British accent, expounding stanzas and quoting from the poem “Gunga Din” by Rudyard Kipling (1890), “By the livin’ Gawd that made you, ..... You’re a better man than I, Gunga Din!” Christmas Eve 2025 will definitely be one for the books! It’s beginning to look like any beverage will do! Mulligatawny Soup starts as a curried broth with common ingredients and spices from the pantry. The unique ingredients are the Granny Smith apple, plain yoghurt and the cayenne pepper. I would suggest that you put <1 tsp of cayenne, make up the soup, do a taste test and then judge if you need more. The yoghurt can lessen the heat of the cayenne. Also, examine your turmeric and if it is a very strong dense colour lighten up the amount you put in the soup as there is often turmeric in the curry powder as well. Enjoy! |
